THE SANDY HARBRECHT FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Sandra (Sandy) earned a BS in Education from Kent State University in 1971. While a student she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Following her graduation from KSU she taught elementary education for ten years, until she joined her father's communication firm in Columbus, Ohio.  In 2000 she was appointed to the KSU Board of Trustees, a post she held for nine years. Sandy is creating this study abroad scholarship so that other students can have the same incredible global experience she enjoyed as an education major teaching in Paris at the American School. 

The Sandy Harbrecht Fund Scholarship is only applicable to Kent State University sponsored programs. Applicants will be required to write a personal statement essay. 


APPLICATION DEADLINE
For each study abroad program term listed below, applications will be accepted until the posted deadline. Students are encouraged to submit their applications prior to these dates for the highest consideration. Applications submitted after the dates below will not be accepted.

Fall Semester Abroad: May 1st
Spring Semester Abroad: November 1st


SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS & ELIGIBILITY
Limited number of $1,000 scholarships may be awarded.
To be eligible for the scholarship students must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Kent State degree-seeking student
  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior class standing
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Successful submission of scholarship application & required scholarship essay
  • Scholarship must be used towards study abroad travel expenses (ex. Flight, accommodations, meals, insurance, in-country transportation, etc). 
 

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

  • ​How will the study abroad experience compliment your studies and individual growth?
  • What do you hope to learn about another culture?
  • How do you envision sharing what you learn with others when you return?
