Course Description:  Expand your worldview and gain diverse perspectives on healthcare by examining the cultural, political, and economic forces influencing health care, nursing needs and health disparities in Northern Ireland. Compare and contrast nursing education, practice, and regulation along with healthcare disparities between Northern Ireland/United Kingdom and in the United States. This two-week intensive study abroad includes seminars at the University of Ulster, Magee Campus and in select clinical settings.

This experience is limited to 10 students. Both undergraduate and graduates students are welcome to apply.

Student dorms at Ulster University. Dorms have shared kitchen facilities available to students. All food costs are out of pocket for students.

If vaccinations or medicines are needed according to the CDC, you can make arrangements with the DeWeese Health Center as soon as possible for immunization appointments.  Appointment openings are limited and they may have to order your vaccine, which takes time.  Plan accordingly.

Brief Bio:  Mary Kutchin has significant experience in hospital administration and nursing leadership. She has experience in both line management and staff management positions. She also has experience in project management and consultations for healthcare organizations with an expertise in accreditation standards. She has developed and managed programs for case management and disease management. Her clinical experience is in critical care, cardiac care and surgical care areas. She coordinates Nursing Leadership and NCLEX courses. She also teaches Nursing of the Acutely Ill and Nursing in Northern Ireland.
