Brief description of the program: In an effort to provide opportunities for resident assistants to further develop cultural competency skills, the Department of Residence Services in collaboration with the Office of International Student Affairs are organizing the Resident Assistant Exchange program. 
10 RAs from Kent State University will travel to Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia on November 10 – November 17, 2018 to learn what housing operation looks like in another country, participate in cultural exchanges with Australian  students and explore professional practices as it relates to the RA position.
In addition, this delegation will also participate in a networking session during the Global Housing Training Institute (GHTI), and inaugural conference hosted at Deakin University that is sponsored by ACIJHO-I and the Asia Pacific Student Housing Accommodation Association (ASPAA).


When: November 10 – November 17, 2018 (return to US on November 18th)

November 11: Arrive in Melbourne, transfer to Deakin Residential Services, Welcome Dinner
November 12: Overview of Deakin & DRS, morning tea, Melbourne city tour
November 13: RA Exchange Activities and Workshops, Deakin Campus Tour
November 14: Networking and Dinner
November 15: Geelong Campus Tour, Great Ocean Road, Warmambool Campus
November 16: Tower Hill, Waterfront Campus, Farewell Dinner
November 17: Depart for US
November 18: Arrive in US



Requirements: Students need to be currently employed as Resident Assistants with the Department of Residence Services at Kent State University and in good academic standing.
Maximum capacity: 10 students


Students will be staying in Deakin University housing facilities.  Accommodation and meals will be provided by Deakin University.  Deakin University will provide the following meals:  5 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 5 Dinners. Students will pay on their own during some of excursions: 2 lunches ($15 x 2 = $30), 1 dinner ($30) and 1 breakfast ($15).

Estimated personal expenses: $350 + $50 extra = $400; $20 visa fee

Non-Refundable $500 Deposit Payment Due: September 7, 2018
Final Payment (remaining $1700) Deadline: October 1, 2018
Withdrawal Deadline: September 21, 2018; if a student/participant withdraws from the Resident Assistant Exchange Program after September 21, 2018, they must pay the full program fee (estimated at $2,200.00).

Please note that the program fee deposit ($500) is non-refundable, and its deadline differs from the remaining Program Fee ($1,700.00).  Please contact the accounting office in Residence Services to pay your deposit (330-672-7021).

Brief Bio: Eron Memaj is the Director of International Student Affairs at Kent State University. In his role, Eron develops and oversees strategies to coordinate and expand outreach opportunities for domestic and international student cross-cultural interactions that foster intercultural understanding and participation in educational, cultural, professional, social and service-oriented projects resulting in increased student academic success and retention.
