INTRODUCTION                                        

Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the leading design institution in Asia with emphasis on the cultivation of design thinking through a unique cultural dialogue between the East and the West with a humanistic and sustainable approach.

City
Hung Hom is part of the city of Kowloon, which has a population of about 2 million people. Hung Hom is bordered by Victoria Harbour and several parks. 

Country
Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China and has a population of over 7 million people. The main language spoken is Cantonese. Hong Kong is famous for its harbours, especially Victoria Harbour. In addition, there are many architectural wonders ranging from skyscrapers to temples.

 

ACADEMIC OVERVIEW

A wide variety of fashion classes are offered in English. It is also possible to take a Chinese language class. Check out the class listing online and speak with your Academic Advisor in the Fashion School about which classes are best for you.
 


ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Students are only able to participate on the exchange during the Spring semester.
  • Spring: January through mid-June
These dates are tentative. Always consult the host university's website and your Education Abroad Advisor before finalizing travel arrangements.
 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • This program is only open to students majoring or minoring in Fashion Design and Merchandising.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be eligible for the program, with a 3.0 GPA preferred. 
  • Students must have taken classes at Kent State University for at least one semester before applying, i.e. students must have a Kent State GPA.
  • Students should be enrolled in 30000- and/or 40000-level Fashion Design and Merchandising courses at the time of application.
 

ACCOMMODATIONS

While in the program, you will live in a double occupancy room in one of the residence halls on campus. You can request a roommate from our program, though roommate preferences are NOT guaranteed. Each room has internet access and is fully furnished. You will be responsible for purchasing your own food.
 


COSTS & TUITION

  • Students pay Kent State University tuition (Ohio Resident or Non-Resident) for 12 credit hours.
  • Housing will be paid directly to HKPU.
  • Total estimated costs can be found in the Budget Sheet at the top of this page.
